Concept
Living and learning in intact surroundings belongs to our concept: Burg Nordeck lies away from the bustle of the towns and conurbation at the edge of the quaint Lumda Valley. At Burg Nordeck small classes, committed teachers, and above all the individual support, ensure that the children learn to solve their school problems. In classes of, on average, ten pupils, the gaps in their knowledge are quickly recognized and can be worked at in additional learning support classes. Pupils can either attend the Realschule or the Gymnasium. After successfully finishing the 10th Grade, our pupils can further their education at a larger secondary school (gymnasiale Oberstufe), a College of Further Education (Fachoberschule) or a Commercial College (Höhere Handelschule) in nearby Gießen or Lollar, if they wish. The pupils would then still be looked after and supported accordingly by the boarding school.
English is taught as the first foreign language. Pupils in the Gymnasium can choose between French and Latin in the 7th Grade.
Lessons take place in the mornings on weekdays. Twice a year parents receive a report about their child’s development and their marks. In urgent cases interim reports may be written which make no claim to be exhaustive. For dyslexic pupils we have set up various Dyslexic courses which are accompanied by our school Psychologist.
There are modern fully-equipped classrooms for the sciences, Art and handicrafts. In order to illustrate the lessons, we regularly organize social, educational, historical and geographical excursions in the near vicinity and also further afield.
Individual help with school problems and learning difficulties is also available outwith the school lessons, because pupils and teachers all live together in the boarding school.
Religious Education is compulsory at Landschulheim Burg Nordeck. The pupils in the 10th Grade can choose between Religious Education and Psychology. If required, confirmation classes can be organized after registration, although the confirmation itself is carried out in the parents’ place of residence.
Time to learn.
