The Surroundings
Our concept belongs to living and learning in intact surroundings. Burg Nordeck lies away from the bustle of the towns and conurbation areas on the edge of the quaint Lumda Valley. The boarding school lies in the community of Allendorf above the village of Nordeck. Other villages belonging to Allendorf are Climbach and Winnen (District of Gießen). Allendorf lies on the Lumda, a small tributary to the left of the Lahn.
The community is surrounded by hills which rise to between 320m and almost 400m above sea level. It is situated between the Lahn Valley and the hills of the Vogelsberg. The area borders on the “Wetterau” to the south. The character of the village is essentially dominated by the romantic castle and its surroundings. The approximately 22 m high castle tower can be seen far throughout the Lumda Valley and also offers a scenic view.
A large part of the living quarters and the administration offices are situated in the castle buildings. The classrooms, as well as further living quarters, can be found in a new development area to the east of Nordeck. The school has a basketball court, swimming pool and a tennis court which are used during physical education classes and for freetime activities. The public sports hall is also used for physical education. The historical open-air theatre is occasionally brought to life by organized events. On the whole, the castle is of great historical and cultural value and set in unique countryside.
