Almost 20 kilometres from the university towns of Gießen and Marburg, Burg Nordeck is situated on a hill, overlooking the village of Nordeck and surrounded by idyllic grounds with woods and meadows.
In the grounds of the castle, previously the residence of the Lords of Nordeck, the voices of children can be heard.Around 100 boys and girls have been living and learning in the castle since the boarding school was founded by Otto Erdmann – a friend and colleague of Paul Geheeb, the founder of the Odenwaldschule. Today the teachers still adopt Otto Erdmann’s philosophy of an education which focuses on the individual pupil For this, the state-approved school, which is a member of the "Vereinigung Deutscher Landerziehungsheime" (LEH) – (The Association of German Country Boarding Schools), was awarded the honorary title of School for Special Educational Needs by the Hessian Ministry of Education and the Arts.
